Being Positive in a Negative World

Desiree Serrano

Why is it that Society dwells on drama and feeds off of it? Many people wonder why they still see themselves stuck in the same situation day in day out. You can be successful if you are motivated enough to just worry about yourself and not worry about what the other person thinks.

You are your own person who makes YOUR OWN DECISION and realistically if you choose to make a wrong choice, you are the one who suffers the consequences not the other person. Not all situations are the same especially if certain consequences affect a loved one or family, but in certain situations you have to be selfish to become a better and more positive individual since this enriches the mind, body and soul. These are very important components that people tend to forget about and neglect since they are only focused on one thing WHAT OTHERS THINK?

If you are paying your own bills why does it matter if another person is trying to hinder your success. The important thing for you to keep in mind is that you should care for yourself and not worry about what others say or think.

I see that most people are afraid of change and are hesitant to take the next step to make it possible for them to be successful. There are a lot of different factors that come into the picture: some people are not patient enough, not a risk taker and don’t see the real picture. They are often influenced by friends and loved ones - I am not saying it is wrong to listen to another person's thoughts or opinions but just remember you are they key to your own success!

Of course there are certain risks involved in daily life that each individual takes, but in all honesty nothing in life goes smoothly – we are all faced sometime in our life where we have to make a choice whether good or bad or easy or hard --- it is all about choices. In life, you have to experience certain things to make you realize that you need to change or continue the same path. A lot of people choose the same path since they are too comfortable and scared to take the unknown path. Seriously, if you take a step back certain risks are not that bad it just takes longer for you to reach your goal, but isn't that worth making improvements in your life?

There are some people who take life or things for granted and do not realize until it is too late. We should be grateful for many things that we have in our Life, since the Lord can easily take our life away. A theory that some people should think about is that they are blessed in what they currently have because there are some individuals who have it less fortunate than them. This is what I feel would help a lot of people to succeed is to be PATIENT, HAVE FAITH and know that you are BLESSED in what you have….trust me I speak from experience I used to be negative and I saw that it does not help you it only prevents you from being successful and it drags you lower into a hole.

I feel that if you reach out to people on a certain level, they will listen and you can guide them in a different light that they have not seen and you will inspire them to become successful in whatever they want to do if they put their mind to it.

Discovering My Past Life!

Last night I discovered I was a man, a woman, black, white, and indigenous to the Americas. For 60 minutes I was able to discover several of my past lives.

The night started off with a thunderstorm and soothing raindrops. After a brief introduction, the facilitator Tony, gave a presentation about past life regressions and hypnosis. This was calming to me, because I was nervous about the experience and what I might see.

After the presentation Tony told us to assume a relaxing position and then proceeded to conduct a group hypnosis session and regression. He guided us through a white light, a happy place, and placed us in a deeply relaxed state. It was then he proceeded to guide us through imagery that would allow us to tap into our past lives. After we were guided to this state of relaxation, we were left to experience the regression.

This was my first time being hypnotized and I was unsure I would be susceptible, but at the same time I thought it would be easy for me because of my inclination towards the ‘unknown’.

I experienced several things. Before we began the regression and I was in the relaxation stage- I was in a happy place with a huge blossoming tree with a swing. I was a child swinging and was with my mother (deceased) and I was happy. As Tony, began to guide us away from the happy place and to the point of entering the regression. I then was an adult on the swing and my mother was walking away and I told her to come back.

I then entered the regression and immediately saw 1919, 1851, 1858. I then saw flashes, not in any particular order:

1. Me as a flapper or dressed in the style of the 1920s. I was dancing and having a great time. I had the impression that I was some type of suffragist, but felt a bit of irony, because my husband was not the most understanding person. I got a feeling this husband was one of my past boyfriends (in this current life).

2. Me as a soldier marching. I had a blue uniform with gold metal and a large blue hat. I was holding a rifle.

3. Me as slave? Sharecropper? I saw a flash of a handsome man’s face and felt sadness/love. I then saw us running and had a feeling we were being chased. He fell into a ditch and I was trying to help him, but he told me to run and leave him.

4. I then saw a woman and a man (unsure which I was). I got the impression these people were indigenous to maybe South America or North America. I lean towards South America because we were canoeing down a river with a dense forest surrounding us.

During the regression, I was fully aware of my surroundings. I could hear the voice of Tony and I could feel my friend shifting next to me, yet I was in such a deep relaxation stage that I barely moved. Towards the end of the regression, I felt a tingling on the right side of my face. I started to let my thoughts enter and I wondered if I would remember everything once I came out of the hypnosis. I also wondered if I was hypnotized.  When Tony was beginning to retrieve us out of our hypnosis, I already opened my eyes and was out of it. I think at that point, I was ready to leave.

During the regression, I saw flashes of pictures, heard words, saw words, smelled scents, and felt emotional sensations.

After the regression, we had the option to share our experiences and we had an open discussion. The eerie thing that happened- after I shared my experience about  my mother, my friend next to me said she had a voice enter her head before we started the regression that said “L. needs her mother.” That was interesting because it occurred around the same time I saw my mother at the tree.

Overall, the experience was a good one. I did a group regression because I wanted to try out the regression process before experimenting with a private session. The entire event lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours, which was a nice length and the regression part was about 1 hour. If I were to get another regression, I would want a private session, so I could focus on my particular concerns. A group regression, you are basically ‘on your own’ without the queues of the regressionist. It is still a good experience, but I feel a private session might address my needs. Tony and his wife were very accommodating; they provided water, pens, notepads, and the comfort of their home.

I am interested in going back to Tony for a regression and other services. If you are in the New York area you can contact him:

Theodore De Dumas

Being bored! A feeling that has taken a hold of many in the population of the world.

By definition, bored means "to weary by dullness, tedious repetition, unwelcome attentions, etc." (Random House Dictionary). At the most basic level, being bored is nothing other than being tired of a series of events in your life. Tired of having the same old stuff happen to you, tired of doing the same things, tired of the same experiences, this is the basis of boredom, even though it does involve other aspects.

Now when you really think about it, it makes no sense to ever be bored, especially with the amount of different subjects and skills one can learn and master in the time you spend being bored. Being bored is a mental illness, it is a psychological illness in which a person has lost interest in growing, and they no longer feel comfortable doing the same old things they are used to. The scary part about it is that many people are bored every single day for hours. Various organizations realized people didn't have ideas and concentrated goals, so they created things like the television in order to literally give them a direction. You can't complain about it because before that you weren't doing anything anyways.

Those who are self educated will many times say that they became so very easily, by dedicating their time to advancing themselves  in a particular field. All that is required to be an expert is to have knowledge in your field. Earl Nightingale believed that an individual could become a world class expert in any field by simply studying every available resource (in that field) for an hour a day for just a year! He didn't say for centuries, but just a year. When you calculate it, one hour a day, would equal 365 hours. All the way through that would equal about 15 days, rounding it off, two weeks straight of studying. That's not very long at all. When asked about his daily life, Bill Gates said he reads at least 2-4 hours a day, and another 2 hours he watches educational videos. I doubt Bill Gates is bored, and he probably has mastered many different fields of study with that time.

In economics, there is a term called opportunity cost which is the value of the next best choice that one gives up when making a decision. When one decides to be bored (this definitely is a personal decision). By being bored, the cost of your time is being spent. Think about what you could be doing with all that time. We are not talking about doing any old thing with your time, because you can sit around and watch television and be "doing something". The people that try to keep their schedules extremely busy so they are never idle are actually evading a problem, they are evading facing themselves.

Similarly, boredom has polarities, in one aspect, it deals with being static in life, and on the other hand it deals with the inability to meditate. Meditation will actually help many people who are bored. They can simply stop searching for stimulation (i.e. "I'm bored what should I do now?") quiet their mind, and let their inner self give them direction. People who begin to meditate often times discover something about themselves that pushes them into a new field of study or interest.

But, if you are simply bored because you don't have anything to do, then think about all the different things you could master and even possibly make a new stream of income off of. Subjects range from sociology, psychology, physics, music, neurology, persuasion, linguistics, archeology, history, law, commerce, nutrition, technology, writing, vocabulary, conspiracy history, media, fictional literature, speed reading, self development, yoga, martial arts, sports, you get the point? There are too many things out there to be mastered for you to sit around and be bored. Learn a new skill! Learn to play an instrument, learn to read faster, improve your word usage, learn how to become a better lover, grow as an individual! While you are sitting around being bored, you could potentially have mastered tons of subject and skills. Remember back in the day when you heard about a person who was a painter, architect, musician, doctor, poet, fencer, and a sexual guru? Well that person used his or her time wisely and mastered multiple fields. Think how much more valuable you can become by investing time in yourself rather than being bored.

Truthfully, being bored shows that your inner reality is one of stagnation, lack, and non-growth. It shows that you are stuck at a certain level, and refuse to pick up yourself and become better. In nature as well as the economy, things that aren't being used end up dying out and being recycled. Of course I am not implying that you will die, but you probably get the point!

Stop being bored and learn to allocate your time better into things that will help your life and potentially the rest of the world.

Thanks for reading!

Trees Please!

When it comes to photography, I love snapping shots of people and nature. I especially love capturing trees.  I don't know what it is about trees, but I feel like they talk to me when I go jogging or biking. Every idea and inspiration I receive, starts off as a small seed planted by the soft breeze of a tree. Not only do trees speak to me, they even listen, I found a tree that had an 'ear' and it spoke volumes. See! Even talking about trees, makes me get all philosophical ; )!

Enjoy the photos!

Mix It Up Monday: The Help

Have you read the book The Help? Or seen the movie? Do you feel it is controversial? Or do people

just need to loosen up about the portrayal of race relations in the US?

It's All About Respect

Desiree Serrano

From generation to generation, it has always been said to us by our parents to respect our elders. Our parents are normally right when they bring us up in the world and it should be something we should “recognize” the term respect. A lot of the drama that individuals face today is based on respect and disrespect. It is funny how such a small notion has torn a lot of people apart.

Through business and personal relationships respect can either go in a positive or negative way. People should realize if you want to be treated in a certain way you must act accordingly. Treat others in how you want to be treated. Of course there are mis-communications that can occur and some people take it too far and serious repercussions occur.

A person’s respect is earned, you are not going to get it just because you are related or good friends with somebody. Through acts of kindness and by being genuine, many people view things in a different sense and reward it by gaining someone’s respect. In many situations people often wonder why a business relationship goes sour, it is not always about the money but in some situations it is how the person was mistreated and causes them to realize that if my character and dignity is threatened, I am not able to trust and have this person’s respect anymore, it is not worth conducting business with them anymore.

I would say in any type of relationship whether business or personal, many times words can be hurtful or taken the wrong way, but if that person has the audacity to take my kindness for weakness – they certainly do not respect me and so why should I respect them.

I know that there are all different types of respect and for some people they can forgive or some cannot. My view on this is if I am going to give you all the respect you deserve, I should expect it in return. This is where a lot of people differ in opinion. I know that I am a good hearted individual, I am very forgiving, compassionate,  and understanding, but once someone disrespects me, I feel that they do not value me as a person and I see in their eyes if they have done it once, they will continue to act that way, so it is best to sever all ties. I understand it sounds severe but in most cases you have to go with your gut feeling and know in your heart that you deserve the best and if a friend, loved one, or business associate cannot give you the respect that you rightfully are entitled to – it is best to move on without looking back since this makes you the stronger individual and it shows that you respect yourself enough to say I DESERVE ALL THE RESPECT and I am not going to let anyone take that away from me.

Aliteracy the Cousin of Illiteracy

Theodore De Dumas

As a society we have moved to the point where most people are fairly literate, they can read basic information (around a 3rd grade level). On the other hand, there exists a new phenomena in which sociologists created whole separate term for. This term is called aliteracy.

Aliteracy is simply "the lack of the reading habit in capable readers". People that are aliterate are not illiterate per se, but choose not to read for whatever reason (which we will get into). This phenomena has been called by some "the invisible epidemic".

People are now able to read, but don't read. Aliteracy is especially causing attention amongst college adminestration. They are finding that less and less students are reading the textbooks and course material. They come to class after skimming through the texts, really not spending time to understand what is in the book. This is scary to some people because these same college students are hired into professional areas and given salaries to do jobs that could potontially affect the state the economy and quality of services in companies. It is said that 90 million Americans over the age of 16 lack reading and writing skills needed for employment! That is a lot of people!

A study was through the Nelson-Denny standardized reading test, in order to find why college students don't read. They found that many of these college students chose not to read because they felt they didn't need to read to "get by". They were only interested in putting in the least amount of reading, and at the same time expected an "A" in the class. These students in the survey also claimed that their reading habits were learned from there parents, who also were not very interested in reading, or who did not wholly value the reading of books. These students did not correlate reading with advancement of knowledge.

I can understand student being disatisfied with the college material, especially with the implementation of curriculum that centers around memorization, rather then true learning of skills and pragmatic knowledge. A book entitled "Readicide" explains that the students lack of reading is directly correlated with the school system, which introduces boring subject matter. Most students believe that all books are like this, and choose not to read. Parents can't blame the school system though, its is their job and responsibility to educate their children.

Its ironic that there would be a push to teach people how to read, yet those same people choose not to read. Its similar to knowing how to cook fresh meals but always eating fast food. In the words of Mark Twain, "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them".

This quote is very true! Not knowing how to read is similar to not reading. Both do not read! One just may have learned to read, and can read things like newspapers or magazine. Even places like Borders or Barnes & Nobles caters to the aliterate, offering them very casual reading. Its almost impossible to do real research inside of Borders. You can read some intriguing things, but no real knowledge is to be gained through casual reading. As Mark Twain stated, its about good books, not just any material.

The myriad of statistics on reading levels is the most revealing about the decrease in reading in America. One third of high school graduates never read a book for the rest of their lives. 80% of American families did not buy a book last year, and the ones that did mostly were over the age of 65. The National Adult Literacy Survery found that 71% of college graduates are unable to read proficiently. 90 million Americans possess only rudimentary literacy skills. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and development said that 50% of the work force in the United States is not literate enough to work in a modern economy. The American Booksellers Association stated, "Unfortunately, reading may therefore someday be engaged in by a small minority of people who are regarded as eccentrics by their fellow citizens." The U.S. Secretary of Education says "The vast majority of Americans do not know they do not have the skills to earn a living in our increasingly technological society." We could literally go on and on!

These statistics only show the magnitude of the issue in America. The sad part is, those stastics count things like magazines and newspapers as reading, so the numbers may be slightly skewed.

Imagine a labor class of Americans who cannot function within the new economy. What kind of jobs are available to them? Imagine companies facing shrinking markets because they sell products or services that require a user's ability to excercise cognitive skills. Well, you don't have to imagine it, this is the reality of America. Most people can barely read the labels on medical prescriptions. They have no idea how to be healthy, because they don't read about the human body nor health sciences (i.e. diet). Medical agencies are able to impart insalubrious information to patients, because they have no idea about their body or health in general. This creates iatrogenics, or medical induced death. Numerous aliterate people rely on media outlets for most of the information they digest. It is almost too elementary to swindle Americans. There is no coincidence that workers are being taken advantage of at increasing rate by financial advisors like Bernie Madoff, they have no financial literacy skills to understand what is occuring. Corporations are adding hidden fees to bill statements, knowing consumers don't read them. The populace is paying for services they have never used. Employers are mistreating employees because employees do not know they actually have rights in the workplace. Ignorant people are guillable. Guillable people will take any command, no matter how demoralizing. Guillable people have no authority and are subject to those in the know. Truly a case of cause and effect, tyrants cannot be blamed!

Aliteracy is one of the main causes for the abuse of Americans by the government. A people who are unaware because the lack of reading are prime for abuse. The founding fathers of America who were freemasons trained under Moorish Sultans in Morocco and certain mystery schools in the American continent, made sure that information was public, and that the people wouldn't be taken advantage of because of their ignorance. They wanted to make sure what happened in the Dark Ages, when the church filtered information to illiterates, didn't happen again. Thomas Jefferson stated, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

Thus meaning the government is almost expected to become tyrants amongst the ignorant. Ignorance results from the lack of knowledge, illiterates and aliterates alike! Most people have never read the Constitution or Bill of Rights, nonetheless Supreme Court Rulings and Peace Officer codes. This ignorance allows governmental agencies (which in actuality are only fronts for sovereigns and bankers) to do as they please. And rightfully so! This boosts the ignorant into learning, stagnation is cured with fire to the rear. High taxes, unconstitutional statues, etc, are the direct result of ignorance and the lower level learning of Americans. The responsibility is on the citizens.

To continue, the data proves that most Americans are illiterate, and almost all are aliterate. There really is no contrariness between the two. Both do not read, its just one can't, and one can. Aliterates have the potential to read, but probably will not. History proves as the populace becomes less knowledgable, the tyranny increases.

Some report that a shortage in time is the reason they don't read and study. Yet they have time to have favorite sports teams, track stats, visit the mall frequently, attend clubs and parties, participate in social media website like facebook and twitter for hours, watch television, and excersise. It has been proven by psychologists that the valued things in life will always have place in an individual's schedule, always! People must not value knowledge and understanding! People must really value being ignorant, and must feel comfortable being controlled, as long as they can watch that new reality show (that is the same story over and over again with new faces). Until people began to read, the legislatures will continue to think of them as ignoramuses who are not capable of thinking for themselves. Corporations will pick up the slack and continue to think for the populace, thus, the population will get continue to get what they deserve.

Is there a cure to aliteracy? Yes! Read! Also learn how to read, there is a distinction between reading and reading comphrehension. A book called "How to read a book" was written for this purpose. Remember that a large amount of those who can read, lack comprehension skills.

Do you know the origin of the way we read? The modern education system uses a method called "Look-Say" wherein a student is taught to associate a picture with a word instead of learning root words, etymology, phonetics, meaning of the word, etc. The Look-say method was contrived from Thomas Hopkins Galluadet, who creatred a methodry for Deaf Mutes. This form of reading was developed for deaf mutes who have no concept of a spoken language (because they are deaf) and cannot hear or are unaware of phonetic sounds for different letters. Now why would the United Stated adopt a method of reading specifically designed for deaf mutes and use this as the means to teach the youth? I won't answer that question, just know that we are not learning efficient ways to read. Students of psychology are now finding out that there are far more efficient ways to read and retain information. Unfortunately, these methods are not being taught. Luckily subjects like speed reading are being studied. It is now known that the conscious mind is a terrible learner, and that complusory education should be aimed at controlling the deeper aspects of the mind- the subconscious, which can record and retain more vast amounts of information. The science of yoga nidra has been shown to help children learn to play instruments, learn new language, and other great feasts, by simply entering a relaxed state of consciousness. There is a lot more to it, but I will leave it at that!

Its amazing people pay for public services but don't use them. The library has tons of books that are all free. There are also legal libraries in the cities where people can learn personal rights as a human being in the United States. Even and other providers have books at low prices. Where there is a will, there is a way. If you want to learn, you will find a way to get the books you need. That's all it takes! It will be interesting to see where this massive amount of aliteracy takes us as a nation! Dark Ages possibly? We will see!

Thanks for reading!

The Fear Within Needs To Be Unleashed

Desiree Serrano

Why is it that most people are not happy in their current lives? The answer is quite simple... they are afraid to take a risk into the unknown. I know that there are a lot of people are afraid to take risks…..the reason is the outcome. How bad can something really be unless you venture into the unknown? If you are not planning to do something illegal then why prevent yourself from taking an adventure? As we look back into our younger lives, there were plenty of things we did and we were not afraid? Yes, I understand that there is no real responsibility as you are a young child, but look now as an adult. You can still act young and be reckless like a child but with certain restraints.

Why live with regrets and look back and say wow I wish I did that? There are many things you can still do……you need to get over that fear and realize that there many worse things that can debilitate you. Think of it this way……….each time you get in your car and go to work each are placing yourself at risk the moment you get into your car.

Put your faith into God and know that he is looking over you and he will protect you. Many
fears haunt you and yet if you overcome a lot of these fears you will be so much happier and
you will feel relieved. I can say, I had fears myself and I realized one day – why should I fear anything in life…from the moment we were born – we knew that someday in our life, God has the power to take our life at any given moment.

Each day I wake up, I am thankful and blessed knowing that God has given me the right to breathe, so don’t take it for granted anymore and do not let your fears get the better of you because someday you will be faced between life and death and you cannot LET FEAR WIN ANYMORE! Search within and know that you are better than your own fear – your power of thought can overcome anything as long as you let it be your best friend.

Fear itself cannot be ignored, when you let it get the better of you, it will progressively get worse not only in your daily life but also will affect you subconsciously in your dreams. Change that and you will see results.

Improved Sleep in 2 Weeks

Two weeks ago, I was lost. I couldn't remember my dreams, my mind raced with thoughts, and I couldn't fall asleep before 4am. I blamed summer for my late nights; it is easy to just stay up late watching movies, laughing with friends, and partying until the wee hours of the night. Two weeks ago, I noticed that my dreams had come to a complete stop and I was extremely fatigued. I had not felt this way, since last year when I began my research on sleep deprivation and the many ways to improve sleep:

Why We Recall Dreams

I wrote articles on dreams and sleep, I even wrote my eBook on sleep deprivation. Yet despite all my research and experience with sleep, I slipped into a habit that was causing me not to have dreams.

I am a huge fan of removing all electronics from the bedroom and followed this idea, but still kept my cell phone by my bed. Starting two weeks ago, I turned off my cellphone prior to bed and the only electronic in my room was the alarm clock; even that I turned off on some nights. Within a few days, my dreams returned and they returned with some powerful messages.

I have always been a bit of a night owl, but I have tried to turn myself into a hybrid- a person that can stay up late and wake up early. For two weeks I went to bed around midnight and let my body naturally wake up in the morning. At first I would wake up at 12pm, but eventually, I started to wake up around 9am with or without the alarm clock. Another method I used to create a better sleep schedule was to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, but I felt that it was better to let my body fall into its natural circadian rhythm own its own.

Now that I have regulated my sleep patterns and turned off my cell phone, I feel much better and my dreams are becoming increasingly predictive once more. I also am more productive and complete more tasks.

It is always possible to improve sleep habits and it will take the average person 2-4 weeks to achieve this goal.

Do you have bad sleep habits? What methods have you tried?
